HOW I HELPED BUHARI DEFEAT JONATHAN – EX-NSA DASUKI

dasukiOverwhelmed by the recent turn of events around him , the embattled former National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki (Rtd), has opened up on how he facilitated the victory of the All Progressives Congress, APC presidential candidate President Muhammadu Buhari. at the May 28 presidential polls against that of his then boss former President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
“I gave my best for this transition, which led to the victory of the opposition over the ruling party”, Dasuki said
Dasuki, who was placed under house arrest between Thursday evening and Friday afternoon by operatives of the Department of State Security Services, DSS, said he intentionally turned blind eye to breaches and actions of the opposition APC against the administration of former President Jonathan, because he wanted to be “fair to all as NSA”.
Dasuki who was retained in office by Buhari more than one month after the Jonathan’s administration that appointed him left the presidential villa, was sacked last week Tuesday. According to Dasuki he “had security cause to act on some issues” but opted not to do what he should have done and that inaction on his part led to the victory of President Buhari in the March 28 presidential election.
“I was fair to all as NSA. Even when I had security cause to act on some issues, inflammatory comments and actions against the government of the day by those in the opposition, I exercised restraint. I did not restrict anyone’s movement, I never asked security agent to occupy anybody’s house.
“But that is the new change we have, this is our own definition of democracy. All I know is that everything has a beginning and an end in a democracy. I gave my best for this transition, which led to the victory of the opposition over the ruling party,” Mr. Dasuki said.
Speaking in an interview with The Nation, Col. Dasuki accused the Muhammadu Buhari administration of witch hunt and lamented that the administration he assisted to power is now desperate to nail him for uncertain reasons.
Recalling his travails in the hands of DSS officers and operatives, Dasuki said “the SSS operatives came in two trucks with a search warrant from a Magistrate Court. The warrant gave them the power to search for illegal weapons and any incriminating item. You can imagine what that is supposed to mean..
“I left office on Tuesday and they got the warrant on Wednesday and executed it by 6pm on Thursday.
“From 6pm on Thursday, throughout the night till about 6am this morning (Friday), they were searching my house looking for incriminating items.
“They restricted my movement. I cannot go out and no one can visit me. All those who attempted to see me were stopped from doing so.
“In fact, my son was blocked from entering my residence. My two cooks, who used to come from their homes to prepare my meals, were also disallowed from leaving my house.
“The only person allowed was the man who feeds my dogs. And he only related with the dogs.
“I could not go out to perform the Eid-el-Fitr prayer because of the restriction,” he said.
“Even when I sought permission to go to Eid Praying ground, they promised to provide a vehicle but they never did.
“This is just a witch-hunt; they are desperately looking for something to implicate me.
“They went to my father’s house including breaking into the ceiling to look for incriminating documents. They broke a safe in my father’s house.
“Also, my sister kept a 20-year old box in my father’s house, they also forced it open. What has my father got to do with this?
“And the old man is in hospital in London. He was shocked to hear that they broke into his house. The good thing is that they did not find anything.”
He however declared that in spite of the “witch hunt” he has nothing to fear.
As at the time of going to press last night, neither the DSS nor the presidency were available to respond to the allegations made by the former NSA. Efforts made to get reactions from the spokespersons of the SSS and president Buhari were unsuccessful.

2016: FG cuts INEC, NASS, amnesty budgets by N65bn

Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun
Ifeanyi Onuba
The Federal Government is proposing a total reduction of about N65.28bn in the budgetary allocation of the Independent National Electoral Commission, the National Assembly and the Presidential Amnesty Programme, investigations have revealed.
The reduction, it was gathered, is part of measures to reduce the cost of governance in the 2016 fiscal year.
Details of the cut already captured in the Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper for 2016-2018 would be unveiled on Tuesday when President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to lay the 2016 budget before the National Assembly.

In the MTEF obtained by our correspondent in Abuja, the Federal Government is proposing a reduction of N17bn in the budgetary allocation to INEC from N62bn approved in the 2015 fiscal year to N45bn.
The N17bn reduction in the allocation of the commission is a decline of 26.1 per cent when compared to what it got in the 2015 year.
Findings revealed that as of September this year, only N31bn out of INEC’s 2015 budgetary allocation of N62bn had been released to the commission.
For the National Assembly, the Federal Government according to the fiscal strategy document, is proposing a cut of N5bn or 4.2 per cent from N120bn in 2015 to N115bn in 2016.
It was also learnt that as at the end of September, the Federal Government out of the approved N120bn for this year had released the sum of N74.66bn to the lawmakers.
For the Presidential Amnesty Programme, the Federal Government is also proposing a reduction of N43.28bn or 68.39 per cent in budgetary allocation for the programme from the 2015 amount of N63.28bn to N20bn.
Out of the 2015 approved allocation of N63.28bn, the total amount released from the Federal Government for implementation of the programme as of September 30 was N47.39bn.
Other agencies whose 2016 budgetary allocation were slashed included the National Judicial Council from N73bn in 2015 to N70bn; Public Complaints Commission from N4bn to N2bn and the Human Rights Commission from N1.52bn to N1.2bn.
The Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, had shortly after assumption of office in November inaugurated Efficiency Unit to assist the government in reducing the cost of governance.
Adeosun lamented that while much had been said about effects of corruption on the economy, little attention was given to the damaging effects of inefficiency and wastages.
She said, “In the few weeks I have spent as the Minister of Finance, it has become clear that without a radical intervention to manage the costs of government, no meaningful improvement in our nation will be forthcoming.’’
